With a goal by Sarcastic Gamer, as the entire gaming community rushed EA’s already-sparce defence, won the game to get EA to stop charging for the weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company.

However, there are going to be some hoops to jump through to get the extra weapons, and these are somewhat toned down from paying for a more powerful weapon via the PSN or the Live Marketplace. There’s no specific weapon per task in the reports (bar one):

  • Demo Unlock - Play the demo on the 360 or PS3 to get a weapon unlocked.
  • Veteran Unlock - Register with the battlefield Veterans program and get another weapon unlocked.
  • Website Unlock - Check your stats on the Battlefield: Bad Company website for another weapon.
  • Pre-order Unlock - A new sniper rifle is available when you pre-order the game.
  • Newsletter Unlock - Sign up for the Battlefield: Bad Company newsletter for the final weapon unlock.

Obviously, gamers hope that the sniper rifle will just be an aesthetic change, rather than simply being more powerful. Otherwise, this is another ploy by EA to try and essentially switch back to charging for guns, even though it is by a more subtle mechanism.

Also, the Gold Edition weapons will be available once the level cap is reached at level 25.
