Seriously, the headline is much more significant than what you’re thinking. From 360 magazine.

So, Lost Planet has been out for about a year, and has been ported to the PS3, and I think the ‘Games for Windows’ gimmick has it somewhere as well. No wonder then, that it’s going to be re-released into the Classics range. However, it is going to be recompiled, added to, and rebranded as Lost Planet: Colonies.

There are many new features, including:

  • Three new single-player modes.
  • Six new online modes.
  • Four new multiplayer maps.
  • Four new online personas (avatars, essentially).
  • Five new campaign characters.
  • Eight new weapons.
  • Brand new environments (vague, I know).
  • New view modes of First-Person, and over the shoulder (think ResiEvil 4)

However, there is ONEMOARTHING that I didn’t mention. The game’s multiplayer is somehow going to become Cross-platform. Any Xbox360 owner will be able to challenge any 360 owner OR PC owner with the game. The same will be vice-versa, of course. Now, I don’t know the intricacies of this, but this is revolutionary for this generation. All this will be added, as well as a budget price tag. Along with Mass Effect, this is going to be a game that I will buy again because of the new add-ons, despite already having the old version.

Told you it was moar significant.

OK, so I got the exclusivity thing wrong, and the lawsuit, and a lot of my predictions, but when you’re dealing with a corporation that’s got somewhat of a bad record with unofficial projects, you tend to expect the worst.

Direct from a quote from BBC’s Anthony Rose’s blog entry:

“So, while I’m impressed that someone has done this, this doesn’t mean that it’s the best possible iPlayer proposition for that console. We’re investigating the optimal video profile and browser proposition to enable us to officially make iPlayer available on PS3 in due course.”

I love how the 360 isn’t even mentioned in that entry. Apparently, the iPlayer will not be coming to the 360, because Microsoft wants to control too much of the experience, compared to Nintendo and Sony (I’m guessing), who will be much more willing to compromise on what is acceptable and what is not.

If there is a butterfly flapping it’s wings to bring a tornado, this could well be it; the deal that makes Microsoft really think about their marketing strategy. Let’s not forget, they had a year’s head-start, which means that they’re also a year ahead in the production cycle; hence, it’s older, and needs more innovation to stay ahead of the game.

When reading this/next month’s issue of gamesTM (I’m an avid subscriber), this was one of the few stories that stood out, and is something that is truly disturbing if it turns out to be true.

Gamestation (“That’s Gamestation.” PLUG) have been reported to be pulling most of it’s retro games from the shelves, and also destroying them. As in hammering them, burning them etc etc.

A quote from the magazine states that “The bulk of these titles are games that are highly unlikely to sell - such as very old sports games - but there are also many under-the-radar classics that have been inadvertantly destroyed. Our source tells us that an official list exists that outlines exactly which games to preserve. These are mostly from recognisable franchises such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Final Fantasy and will continue to be sold within Gamestation stores. There are, however, a number of less obvious but nevertheless rare and desirable games that are not accounted for on the list.”

They then go to state that they have personally heard of two undisclosed Saturn games (Who’s betting one is NiGHTS into Dreams?) not featuring on the list.

If anyone is reading this who has a Gamestation near them, I recommend you either try to do an FoI request on them (It might work; I don’t know the intricacies of the law, or whether they would indeed fall for it), or ask them for all the games that are not on this list, and either make a list yourself, take a digital photo and write up the names, or just outright buy them and sell them on eBay. You should be able to get them for peanuts.
