High Voltage Software is the speaker of this almost unbelievable claim, with it’s gaming engine called Quantum3. According to VideoGamer.com, it’s the result of 15 years of work, with all sorts of tweaks and tricks that are in the Wii’s hardware specification.
“The Wii platform is capable of a lot mroe than what consumers have seen so far. We’re hoping to raise a new bar,” said HVS’s CEO.
The first title to use this engine is the FPS The Conduit. Take a look at the tech demo below to see the proof.
Honestly, I can’t see this happening myself. The Wii has never been the system for hardcore gamers, as it just doesn’t have the power, and hasn’t been geared towards the gamer demographic. Despite how sweet the visuals are above, remember this: The Wii only transmits HD at 480i/p, and 480p is only if you have bought the component cable. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are capable of doing more than double this (quadruple if you consider the real-time application of it), at 1080i/p.
If they can get this sort of performance on the Wii, then the weakness of being less powerful is, for all intents and purposes, thrown out of the water. Despite the lower resolution, it still looks good, and that’s what people want. I just hope all the stuff that has to be added in (player, weapons etc) do not clog it down to an unplayable state
MTV (the same people that brought us the 360mote) have uncovered a story that I have to admit, I love. Not because of the content, or the style, but simply because it’s Uwe Boll getting his just desserts, from screwing the pooch on videogame movies.
Long story short, after 200,000 people said that they don’t want him to make movies anymore (he tends to be featured in the Golden Raspberries more and more these past few years), after he said it would take 1,000,000 people to stop him, he decided to roll up to Blizzard HQ and ask for the movie rights to World of WhorecraftWarcrack Warcraft. The reply?
“We will not sell the movie rights, not to you… especially not to you.”
Here’s something you might’ve missed, Boll. You had a film right there, from Blizzard, in a decade old game called Starcraft. You get a Korean actor, and a Korean translator, and you’ve got an immediate audience that will suck it up just to say they watched it. You’ve got characters, a plot, and gruesome deaths up the wazoo. All before you even begin shooting.
Konami have really underestimated the amount of people that would be trying the Metal Gear Online Beta out for them, and as such have decided that the best thing to do would be to turn the entire thing off, recalibrate, get it right this time (for they were indeed, doing it wrong), and release as and when. They say that they will make an announcement for the restart date tomorrow.
Because of this, the Beta will now close on May 11th, instead of May 6th. And in addition, both the US and Europe territories will have identical start and end dates. So long as they don’t stick us both on the same server; that would be pandemonium.
Just for today. Someone decided to disable JS on my site, and I’m going loco at them for it. Since taking all other measures, I need to recalibrate the Blue-Rai theme today. News will continue as normal, but the theme has dropped back.
