News to do with specific games/consoles

Since when did ASDA start selling video game consoles? I thought they sold bad food and worse clothes. Ah well.

According to ASDA’s head of games (They have a games department?! WTF?!), the pre-orders for the PS3 version of GTA IV are outstripping that of the 360 equivalent by an approximate ratio of three to one. These are just pre-orders on the website though, and doesn’t count the ballsy customers that ask in-store.

I’m an avid 360 supporter, simply because it’s the lesser of two evils. But when I see this, I’m not surprised. GTA IV was a massive thing for PS3 owners, and of course still is. With the lack of decent titles out for the Glossy Black Wonder, of course more people are going to jump on this. Not to mention, it really is the second-best time to get a PS3 (The best of course, being when Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out). The 360’s hardware market is pretty much bordering on practical saturation, and there are a lot more games out for it that actually have some merit to them. Not to mention that Microsoft might also have inadvertently helped the PS3 by advertising the game, since it’s obviously a multi-platform release.

It may be a little late, but according to IW, they’ve been making sure that it’s just right. And with the time it took to develop CoD4, I can understand why. Let’s admit it, the game is a multiplayer masterpiece, and already there are others trying to get in on the action.

The Variety Map Pack for the PS3 will be released on Thursday, 24th of April. That’s tomorrow, except for those of you who live in the US (in which case, why are you reading this?) where it’ll be tomorrow, in about quarter of an hour from now.

One’s old one’s new, nothing’s borrowed and my socks are blue. K?

The Old story is that the restart date for Metal Gear Online has been set as this Friday (April 25th). Whether it’s midnight as on Thursday/Friday, or midnight on Friday/Saturday, though, is anyone’s guess.

The New story is that the BBFC has said that there are implied scenes of child rape on Metal Gear Solid 4. Yeah, now I’m worried what’s going on in Hideo Kojima’s mind. Maybe it was just the BBFC doing it wrong?

I hope so. (SPOILER ALERT methinks)

Regardless, I’m going to buy it, and I’m going to buy the other games (MGS2 + 3, I already have the original) and play them all, in order, from start to finish. Thank God I’ll have the money by then. Chances are I’ll just buy up to 3 first, THEN get the PS3 with MGS4.

The Limited Edition of Alone in the Dark has been revealed, and it has some surprisingly juicy stuff. It includes:

  • Alone in the Dark game, one of the most anticipated games of the year;
  • Figurine of the game’s legendary hero, Edward Carnby;
  • Official Soundtrack CD featuring 8 in-game tracks of original music by Olivier Derivière and performed by Grammy® Award-winning choir The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices;
  • Full colour, bound art book featuring never before seen production sketches, storyboards and original artwork from Eden Games;
  • ‘Making Of’ documentary feature DVD with exclusive interviews, behind the scenes footage and additional bonus content.

And the box looks awesome too.

This is a story that has been created, and then torn apart within the space of a few hours, which is pretty awesome. But I arrived late, as typical for me.

There were reports lying around that an ex-Activision Underground employee had said that after Call of Duty 5, Infinity Ward would be the sole developer of the Call of Duty series.

Since then, Activision has come out, and told Eurogamer that it was a total lie, or “fabrication”, as they put it, and that Treyarch and Infinity Ward will still make the series in alternation.

Now, I have to admit that I was holding my breath at the tip-off. Infinity Ward have made the original CoD title, along with CoD2 and CoD4, and quite frankly, they are the best at doing it, so Treyarch are an inferior developer. There, I said it. Who remembers Call of Duty 3? I honestly felt like it slipped under the radar. Couple that with the amount of people that bought Modern Warfare, and now know Infinity Ward to be the makers of CoD4, and ergo by standard thoughts, they make the series. So people are going to be bummed out.

Make IW the sole developer! They know the series, damn it.
